On Lance Armstrong and cycling in London
29th March 2012
Hello hello do come in.
Lately I’ve become obsessed with this footage of the Tour de France. The video features Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani battling for supremacy on Mont Ventoux, the mountain where Britain’s Tommy Simpson died of a heart attack in 1967.
Below it you will find a video of your truly on said mountain…
The soundtrack synchs perfectly with the footage. I recently converted it to mp3 and listened to it on a loop as I rode through London, before scaling back to Frank Skinner podcasts until it dawned on me I’m probably better off not having anything in my ears while cycling through town.
Pantani died of a cocaine overdose in a motel in 2004.
I know how steep Mont Ventoux is. Joan and I visited it last year.
